Check with your local libraries near you, and see if they have a Summer Reading Program. A lot of libraries offer these. They give your child incentive to read during the summer as they often offer prizes to kids for reading a certain number of books.
Also, as part of the summer reading programs, the libraries will have guests come into the library for entertainment. Our local small-town library has usually 2 guests come in each week for usually an hour-long program. My wife and daughter have seen magicians, clowns, celebrity readers, animal trainers, comedians, etc. It's a great outing for them a couple days a week, and keeps my daughter going to the library and reading.
Have fun!
